YSU Approves 2013 Budget, Semester Tuition Up $130
Thursday, June 14, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown State University Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved a $156.3 million general fund budget for fiscal year 2013, and a $130-per-semester tuition increase beginning in September.
“In these difficult economic times with continued reductions in state funding, we have carefully developed a spending plan that allows us to live within our means and to continue to invest in high-quality academic programs, faculty and facilities,” said YSU's president Cynthia E. Anderson, in a prepared statement.
YSU Addresses Shortage of School Psychologists
Thursday, June 14, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- To address the critical shortage of school psychologists here and across the nation, Youngstown State University is launching a new graduate-level school psychology program this summer. It is the first such program in Ohio in more than 40 years.
The first group of 12 students in the new program will be introduced at 1 p.m. Friday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
Youngstown YMCA Offers Splash! Water Safety Event

“It’s important to make sure children and adults are confident in the water to ensure they have a fun and safe experience,” said Tara Deagan, aquatics director at the Central YMCA in downtown Youngstown, where the week's program will be held. “The Y encourages all kids and adults to learn how to swim. It’s never too late.”
Kassis Named Adviser at International Trade Center

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mousa Kassis, director of exports for Global Equipment and Connections, a consulting firm here, has been named the international trade adviser at the International Trade Assistance Center at Youngstown State University, the university announced Monday.
The center offers export-counseling services at no charge to small and medium businesses in Mahoning, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties.
Kassis earned his baccalaureate and master’s degree in economics at YSU and has been an adjunct professor of economics there 16 years.
Local History Sourcebook Available to Public
Monday, June 11, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A new sourcebook that highlights and facilitates use of area museums and libraries with local history-related archival holdings is now available. The sourcebook lists available resources including collections of original documents and photographs, business and government records, books, manuscripts, and maps, and describes how and when they can be accessed by the public.
