34,000 Visit OH WOW! in Museum's First Year
Friday, May 18, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology recently marked its first year of operations downtown.
The museum, which provides hands-on, interactive exhibits based in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to children and their families in the greater Mahoning Valley, reported that it exceeded all of its goals for its first year, with 34,000 visitors, 780 memberships and 11,000 students for field trips.
YSU Students Make Bags from Campus Banners
Thursday, May 17, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Decorative banners that once hung from light posts and elsewhere on and around the Youngstown State University campus are being turned into designer tote, messenger and other bags. Through the YSU Banner Bag Design Competition, groups of students in YSU’s Fashion Merchandising and Graphic Design programs are collaborating to take the vinyl banners and repurpose them into fashion pieces.
DeBartolo Foundation Awards $56,000 to Students
Tuesday, May 15, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio – Eight area graduating high school seniors were honored Monday as Denise DeBartolo York and her husband, John York, presented each with a $7,000 college scholarship from the Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
It was the 15th year for the annual event, which this year introduced the Donald P. Pipino Memorial Award to honor Pipino, and the “generosity” of his estate's contribution to the foundation’s endowment, said DeBartolo York.
EGCC Sets Shale Training Info Session in Lisbon
Tuesday, May 15, 2012STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Eastern Gateway Community College will host an information session May 21 on upcoming shale gas training classes of the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center in Lisbon. The event will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The event will provide information on entry-level jobs, the training programs offered by the college, program requirements and what is involved in the application process, said Tracee Joltes, assistant director of workforce outreach at the college. The session is free and requires no registration.
YSU Sustainable Energy Forum Is June 4, 5
Tuesday, May 15, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The fourth annual Youngstown State University Sustainable Energy Forum, expected to draw more than 200 academics, energy industry leaders, government officials and entrepreneurs, will be Monday and Tuesday, June 4 and 5.
