YSU Hosts 2-Day Forum on Sustainable Energy
Monday, June 04, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – More than 200 academicians, energy industry leaders, government officials and entrepreneurs are expected to converge this morning on the Youngstown State University campus for the 2012 Sustainable Energy Forum.
Marc Gerken, president of American Municipal Power, will deliver the keynote address, following remarks by YSU President Cynthia Anderson; U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-6 Ohio; and Jason Walsh, senior advisor, U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The event takes place at YSU’s Kilcawley Center.
Input Sought on Future of Education in Youngstown
Monday, June 04, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Civic leaders are inviting all of Youngstown’s concerned citizens to attend “Deeper Conversations” to be held at the community’s libraries on June 5 and June 7. The events are part of an initiative funded by the Raymond John Wean Foundation and the Youngstown Foundation to help shape the future of education in Youngstown.
Eastern Gateway Enrollment Growth Leads it Downtown
Thursday, May 31, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – By August, a few new faces are likely to be seen downtown as Eastern Gateway Community College accelerates its efforts to renovate space in the Plaza Parking Deck in time for the fall semester.
At a press event Wednesday, Eastern Gateway President Laura Meeks announced that the college selected the parking/office complex at 53 S. Champion St. to house its Valley Center because the space was available and in the downtown, and students and faculty could park close by.

Wednesday, May 30, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Plaza Place parking deck on Champion Street downtown, built by the city in the early 1970s and until recently owned by embattled real estate developer Lou Frangos, is the site of Eastern Gateway Community College’s new Valley Center.
The announcement will be made at a news conference this afternoon, officials said.
The parking deck includes first-floor offices as well as a restaurant, Café Cimmento. The structure will be renovated to accommodate classrooms in time for the start of classes in late August.
'Green' Graduates Ready for What Comes Their Way
Tuesday, May 29, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Were it not a three-month program in construction and agriculture, Jonathon Stevenson doesn’t know if he could pursue his dream of becoming a music producer.
“I don’t think I would have that opportunity,” Stevenson said. “I really don’t.”
Stevenson is one of 16 students who graduated Friday from the Green Jobs training Program sponsored by Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp.
He is also one of eight graduates who will take his GED finals next month; the other eight either have high school diplomas or passed their GEDs.
