Students Observe Little Steel Strike Anniversary

Workforce Agencies, BRN Share $12M in Grants
Tuesday, June 19, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Just two months after convening a summit to look at how to address the workforce needs of manufacturers in the region, the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $6 million to agencies in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to address those needs.
The Workforce Innovation Fund grant will allow the Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition and the Industry Partners of Lawrence and Mercer Counties to again collaborate to implement the coalition’s strategic action plan, said Jessica Borza, coalition executive director.
Greene Named to YSU Board of Trustees
Monday, June 18, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Retired businessman James B. Greene of Canfield has been named by Gov. Kasich to serve on Youngstown State University’s Board of trustees.
Greene is the retired director of sales for Compco Industries. His nine-year term took effect June 15.
Kasich’s press office announced Greene’s appointment Friday.He replaces Millicent S. Counts, the retired executive director of the United Methodist Community Center, whose term has expired.

Kent State's Columbiana Campuses Get New Dean
Monday, June 18, 2012KENT, Ohio -- Stephen Nameth, Ph.D., has been named dean and chief administrative officer of the Kent State University Columbiana County campuses. He will lead Kent State University at East Liverpool and Kent State University at Salem, two of the regional campuses in the university’s eight-campus system.
He begins his position Aug. 1, according to Todd Diacon, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at Kent State.
Eastern Gateway Tech Plan Earns Approval
Friday, June 15, 2012STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Eastern Gateway Community College’s interim reports concerning its comprehensive technology plan and hiring full-time faculty plan have been approved by the Higher Learning Commission. The college’s next comprehensive evaluation remains scheduled for 2016-2017.
