College Fair at 20 Federal, Series of Events Planned
Friday, June 08, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A college fair held Thursday at 20 Federal Place is the first in a series of events planned for the city-owned building, says its manager, Sean McKinney, the city's building and grounds commissioner.
Some 20 exhibitors had displays at the event, including Youngstown State University, Kent State University Trumbull Campus, Penn State Shenango, Walsh College’s Canfield Campus and Eastern Gateway Community College.
Sister Jerome to Supporters: Rise Above, Trust the Lord
Thursday, June 07, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sister Jerome Corcoran says she “encourages my friends to rise above” the events that led to her termination May 25 as the executive director of the Millcreek Community Center and the Youngstown Community School, “and trust in the Lord.”
The 96-year-old nun, a member of the Ursuline Order, founded the acclaimed institutions that worked with inner-city children and their parents to build strong foundations for educational success. “I know that this is just an event, an incident,” she wrote in an email. “Lots worse things happen.”
Board Issues Statement About Firing of Sr. Jerome
Wednesday, June 06, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Moments ago the board of directors of the Millcreek Community Center issued a statement in response to our story this morning that Sister Jerome Corcoran, the 96-year-old founder and executive director of the Millcreek Children's Center and the Youngstown Community School, was fired May 25.

In an email sent Tuesday night to her supporters, Sister Jerome says she has “come to a fork in the road” and was “fired” May 25 by the board of directors of Sister Jerome’s Schools Inc.
YSU Students Face 3.5% Hike in Tuition Costs
Wednesday, June 06, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Finance and Facilities Committee of Youngstown State University's board of trustees has voted to increase tuition by 3.5% beginning in th fall semester. The hike, which must be approved by the full board, would raise undergraduate tuition to $3,856 per semester.
YSU projects $1.1 million less in state funding next year. Other fees are also likely to be increased.
Meantime, YSU is implementing a 2.75% convenience fee on all credit card transactions to pay charges on student accounts, including tuition.
