Park Vista Offers Lecture Series on Faith, Religion
Monday, October 22, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Park Vista of Youngstown has established the Ruth Kyle Lecture Series, a program where lecturers from aound the United States addresss matters of faith and religion.
The first lecture is set for 10:30 a.m. next Monday in the gathering room.
The series is made possible by an endowment from the estate of Ruth Kyle, a 25-year resident of Park Vista known for her benevolence, service as a volunteer and “deep belief that spirituality is vital to life,” said Brian Kolenich, executive director at Park Vista.
Kyle died in 2011.
New Business Filings in Ohio Rise in September
Monday, October 22, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A total of 6.665 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in September. This number is up from September 2011, when 6,143 new entities filed.
New business filings are classified as forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity, including for-profit, nonprofit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships, according to Jon Husted, secretary of state.
Consol Puts Employees, Visitors to the (Safety) Test
Saturday, October 20, 2012NORTH JACKSON, Ohio -- Consol Energy places such an emphasis on safety that the company puts everyone to the test – even reporters invited to tour a well site in Jackson Township Oct. 2.
For nearly an hour and a half, members of print and broadcast media were primed on the safety and environmental standards followed at every Consol well site by the company safety manager, Kevin Ice.
Everything from required equipment, gear and cell phone use, down to how visitors and employees at the site are expected to park their vehicles was covered.

Ohio Unemployment Rate Falls to 7% in September
Saturday, October 20, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio’s unemployment rate was 7.0% in September, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 7.2% in August, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Friday. The rate drop was also an improvement from September 2011’s 8.6%.
Ohio’s unemployment rate was also down from the nationwide 7.8% rate, which declined from 8.1% in August and was down from 9.0% in September 2011.
Wenick Joins F.N.B. Wealth Management

F.N.B. Wealth Management, a subsidiary of First National Bank of Pennsylvania, is expanding its efforts to serve the more affluent residents in the Mahoning Valley and help companies manage their employee benefits plans. It has $3.9 billion in assets under management.
No New Permits for Mahoning, Shenango Valleys
Friday, October 19, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued five new horizontal drilling permits last week for energy companies exploring the Utica shale, none of which were in the Mahoning Valley.
ODNR awarded one permit Oct. 10 for Chesapeake Exploration LLC for a new well in Union Township in Carroll County, where more than 130 permits have been issued, the most for a single county in Ohio.

Regional Chamber Exhibitors Bullish on Local Economy

About 100 businesses had displays at the event, reported Bergen Giordani, director of special events for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber. The event was held at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center.
Several business representatives -- although not all of them -- credited the oil and gas industry’s growth in the region with their improved performance.

Huntington Reports Record Third-Quarter Income
Friday, October 19, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – Huntington Bancshares Inc., parent of Huntington Bank, reported net income of $167.8 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30 Thursday, or 19 cents per common share, a record high for its third-quarter earnings.
This compares to second-quarter net income of $152.7 million, or 17 cents per common share, and third-quarter 2011 net income of $135.7 million, or 16 cents per share.
