No New Permits for Mahoning, Shenango Valleys
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued five new horizontal drilling permits last week for energy companies exploring the Utica shale, none of which were in the Mahoning Valley.
ODNR awarded one permit Oct. 10 for Chesapeake Exploration LLC for a new well in Union Township in Carroll County, where more than 130 permits have been issued, the most for a single county in Ohio.
The agency also issued two permits Oct. 11 for CNX Gas Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Consol Energy, to drill horizontal wells in Tuscarawas County in Bucks Township. Both of these wells are slated for the Beachy property.
Consol's Utica joint venture partner, Hess Ohio Developments LLC, was issued a permit Oct. 12 for a new well in Belmont County's Wheeling Township.
Also on Oct. 12, a new horizontal well permit was issued to Mountaineer Keystone LLC for oil and gas exploration in Nelson Township in Portage County.
According to ODNR, there have been 413 horizontal well permits issued to energy companies operating in the state, 176 of which have been drilled. Thirty-five of these wells are now producing, ODNR reported.
No new permits issued last week for Lawrence and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
The last permit issued for western Pennsylvania was on Oct. 1 to Chevron, which is looking to drill a horizontal well in Mercer County.
