Lane to Host Open House at Newest Chapel
Tuesday, November 13, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Lane Family Funeral Homes will host an open house this weekend at its eighth and newest home, the Anstrom Chapel at 8387 Tod Ave.
The chapel offers all the latest amenities such as personalized video tributes for each service, a computer condolence center and a well-appointed reception center capable of seating 150 people, Lane officials said.
To introduce the chapel to the community, Lane is hosting an open house Nov. 17 and 18 between 1 and 5 p.m. A ribbon cutting will be held Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
Give-A-Coat Campaign Kicks Off Dec. 1
Tuesday, November 13, 2012WARREN, Ohio -- The third annual Ronald McDonald House Charities “Give-A-Coat” campaign will provide $20,000 in free winter coats for underserved children in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The event for Trumbull County will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Warren Family Mission on Elm Road.
Advance registration for eligible families in Trumbull County will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, also at the mission.
Lordstown Landowners to Bargain for Mineral Rights

LORDSTOWN, Ohio – More than 30 landowners in and around Lordstown have formed the Lordstown Regional Landowners Group to maximize their mineral rights opportunities following the transfer of leases to Halcon Resources Corp. that affect 31,000 acres
Michael Hodak, president of the group, and attorney Alan D. Wenger, who heads the oil and gas practice at Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell Ltd. Youngstown, announced the formation of the group Sunday.
The group owns 5,000 of the 31,000 acres affected, Hodak said. The leases were transferred last August.
New Vehicle Sales in Valley Up 9% in October
Monday, November 12, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – In October, sales of new cars and trucks in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties were 9.2% higher than October 2011, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's monthly report.
Dealers in the Mahoning Valley reported they sold 1,982 new vehicles versus 1,815 sold during the same month a year ago.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were also better than year-ago numbers.
Steel Import Permit Applications Up in October
Monday, November 12, 2012WASHINGTON -- Steel import permit applications for October totaled 2.7 million net tons, reports the American Iron and Steel Institute. This marks a 3% increase from the permit tons recorded in September and up 11% from the September preliminary imports total.
Based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis data, AISI says that import permit tonnage for finished steel in October was 2.14 million net tons, up 14% from the preliminary imports total of 1.89 million in September.
J.D. Power Gives Huntington Highest Marks
Monday, November 12, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – J.D. Power and Associates reports its survey of small-business owners gives Huntington Bank the highest marks in the country in overall customer satisfaction, Power and Huntington announced Friday.
Huntington received 793 of a possible 1,000 points in the survey Power conducted. This is an improvement from the 767 points Huntington was given last year when it finished second in the small-business satisfaction survey. Power says it surveyed 7,246 small-business owners served by Huntington.

First Niles Reports Net Income of $54,000
Monday, November 12, 2012NILES, Ohio – First Niles Financial Inc., holding company of Home Federal Savings and Loan Association, reports third-quarter net income of $54,000, or five cents per share, and for the first nine months of $217,000, or 19 cents a share.
Third-quarter net income was $345,000 lower than the same quarter a year ago when earnings per share were 35 cents. Net income for the first nine months was $996,000 lower than the same period in 2011, when earnings per share were $1.05.

Stoneburner, president of Buckeye Transfer Inc., bought the former National Refractories & Minerals property, a brownfield site west of Columbiana and north of Leetonia, in bankruptcy court after its former owners filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2001.
Rose to Retire as CEO of Better Business Bureau
Friday, November 09, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Patricia Rose, the president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, is retiring effective Dec. 31.
Rose announced her retirement Oct. 26 in an email to the BBB’s board of directors, a copy of which was obtained by The Business Journal. She did not respond to a request for an interview.
