Rubenstein Associates to Help BP with Shale Marketing
Wednesday, November 14, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Rubenstein Associates, a marketing consulting firm, has been selected as one of the firms to represent BP America, the largest energy investor in natural gas in the United States, in northeastern Ohio, Carolyn Rubenstein announced Tuesday.
Her firm, with offices in Liberty Township, will be charged with marketing and communications initiatives throughout the Utica/Point Pleasant shale region, she said.
55-Plus Housing Market Continues to Improve
Wednesday, November 14, 2012WASHINGTON -- Builder confidence in the 55-and-older housing market for single-family homes showed significant improvement in the third quarter compared to the same period a year ago, the National Association of Home Builders announced Tuesday.
The figures from the latest 55-Plus Housing Market Index of the trade association are more than triple those of a year ago, going to 36 from 12. The 36 is the highest third-quarter reading since the inception of the index in 2008.
Ohio Third Frontier Sponsors Open Innovation Forums
Wednesday, November 14, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Third Frontier is sponsoring six Open Innovation Ohio education forums across the state, Christiane Schmenk announced Tuesday.
Schmenk is director of the Ohio Development Services Agency and chairwoman of the Ohio Third Frontier Commission.
The forums are intended to educate companies with annual revenues of $10 million to $1 billion about Open Innovation and financial incentives available through the Third Frontier.
UCFC Reports Third-Quarter Loss of $26.89 Million
Tuesday, November 13, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – United Community Financial Corp., holding company of the Home Savings and Loan Co., today reported a third-quarter net loss of $26.89 million, or 82 cents per share.
UFCF attributed the results primarily to a $33 million loss related to its bulk loan sale completed Sept. 22 of $114.8 million, on which it recorded a loss of $29.4 million.
This in turn caused UCFC to report a loss for the first nine months of $23.03 million, or 70 cents per share.
Anchor Drilling Fluids Opens $2M Plant in Wellsville
Tuesday, November 13, 2012WELLSVILLE, Ohio -- Come Friday, the 12,000-square-foot Anchor Drilling Fluids Inc. plant here will begin producing drilling fluids to serve the oil and gas extraction industry.
On five acres in the Wellsville Intermodal Facility industrial park, the new plant, the first of its kind in Ohio, will produce and store "environmentally friendly fluids" for use in shale drilling, Anchor said in a prepared statement issued Monday. Anchor is based in Tulsa, Okla. The fluid is used to lubricate the drill during deep drilling.

Tuesday, November 13, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Be careful when landmen knock on your door, promising more royalties from even more gas wells if you amend your mineral lease, attorney Alan Wenger told some 500 members of the Associated Landowners of the Ohio Valley gathered Monday evening at the Covelli Centre.
“The largest protagonist for amendments is Chesapeake,” he said. “They have such huge holdings in our area, it’s very difficult for them to drill enough wells to hold all the parcels during the primary terms of their leases.”
