Give-A-Coat Campaign Kicks Off Dec. 1
WARREN, Ohio -- The third annual Ronald McDonald House Charities “Give-A-Coat” campaign will provide $20,000 in free winter coats for underserved children in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The event for Trumbull County will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Warren Family Mission on Elm Road.
Advance registration for eligible families in Trumbull County will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, also at the mission.
"It’s horrifying how quickly children can suffer from frostbite or other unimaginable consequences when temperatures plunge and they are not properly dressed for harsh weather conditions,” said Herb Washington, a McDonald’s owner/operator and board president of RMHC of Mahoning Valley & Western PA. “Children shouldn’t have to shiver while waiting for a school bus or miss out on an opportunity to play outside because they don’t have a coat.”
To register, parents or guardians from Trumbull County must show valid state-issued photo ID and the Social Security and medical cards for each child up to age 18.
Additional “Give-A-Coat” distribution events will be scheduled for Columbiana and Mahoning counties.
Parents or guardians whose children are eligible to participate will receive a letter from The Way Station in Columbiana, or from The Third Baptist Church in Youngstown.
For more information, residents of Trumbull County residents should call Cheryl Parsons at 330 207 1903, while residents of Columbiana County should call Vicki Hopper at 330 482 5072. Families in Mahoning County should call 330 743 0604.
The Walmart store in Trumbull County provided the coats for residents of that county, said Parsons, who serves as Trumbull County event coordinator.
At all the events, McDonald’s owner/operators, who include Washington, John Perdue, Steve Telischak and Rick Telischak, will be joined by Ronald McDonald and volunteers from children’s services organizations.
