Rose to Retire as CEO of Better Business Bureau
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Patricia Rose, the president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, is retiring effective Dec. 31.
Rose announced her retirement Oct. 26 in an email to the BBB’s board of directors, a copy of which was obtained by The Business Journal. She did not respond to a request for an interview.
In her email to directors, Rose states, “The [BBB] executive committee has offered me a settlement agreement, which I have signed. If you know of anyone who has a strong belief in ethics and a passion for serving the community, please let the executive committee know about him or her. I am entrusting the choice of my successor to you, my boss for the past 28 years. My staff is the backbone of this bureau. I am confident you will choose someone who, like me, recognizes their worth and the amazing talents and dedication they have to our mission.”
Rose joined the BBB in 1985 as director of mediation and arbitration. She was named president and CEO in 1994.
Last December her husband, Richard, died, and this year she “had two serious surgeries within two months,” her email states. “I will be 73 this coming March. It is time to let someone else take over the reins and lead this organization to ever higher heights than I have.”
During her tenure, the BBB chapter enjoyed “the highest market share of any BBB. We have consistently had our fund balance mentioned as one of the highest comparable to or [higher] than some of the largest BBBs in the system,” she writes.
Rose served two terms on the board of directors for Council of Better Business Bureau and served on its operations committee, which she chaired in her final year on the CBBB.
In concluding her email to local board members, she states, “I am going to deeply miss being your president. I will probably have withdrawal symptoms but just remember I will always be your friend and a friend of our Better Business Bureau.”
