Sales of New Autos Soar in Mahoning Valley
Friday, August 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new vehicles among dealerships in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties soared more than 26% last month, led by robust business for the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze.
The Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's monthly report shows that area dealers sold 2,669 new cars and trucks in July compared to 2,110 the same month in 2012, a 26.4% increase.
Farmers Trust, Farmers Bank Give YBI $125,000
Friday, August 09, 2013CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers Trust Co., a subsidiary of Farmers Banc Corp., this week awarded two grants for the Youngstown Business Incubator's five-year fundraising campaign. YBI will receive $50,000 from the Jane F. Lamb Charitable Foundation and another $50,000 from the William Neckerman Charitable Foundation, both administered by Farmers Trust.
In addition to these gifts, Farmers National Bank gave the YBI a donation of $25,000, the company reported.
Mahoning Land Bank to Sell First Reclaimed House
Friday, August 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning County Land Bank has placed the first vacant house it’s rehabilitated on the market, says Debora Flora, executive director. The house, 1815 Canfield Road, is listed at $34,900.
The two-bedroom, 1.5-bath house has a two-car garage and large fenced-in backyard. Among its features are a new roof, new plumbing, a repainted first floor and basement, exterior paint, a refurbished bathroom, central air conditioning and new garage doors.
An open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. next Thursday.
Ohio Exports Record 3% Increase in First Half
Friday, August 09, 2013WASHINGTON -- Exports of Ohio merchandise increased 3% in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period a year ago, the U.S.Department of Commerce reports. Exports grew to $25.3 billion from $24.7 billion, a record high export level for the state.

Initiative Committee OKs $200K for 2 Projects
Friday, August 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A city incentive panel approved $200,000 to assist a pair of projects, including Strollo Architects' planned $4.3 million rehabilitation of the Wells Building downtown.
The Wells Building rehabilitation and a $964,544 construction project at Steel Forming Inc., doing business as Commercial Metal Forming, each were approved for a $100,000 subordinated loan that will convert to a grant if employment and investment commitments are met. The Youngstown Initiative Committee approved the incentives at its meeting Thursday morning.
Buying Competitor Expands Turning's Market Share
Thursday, August 08, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Turning Technologies’ acquisition of its key competitor will give the company control of about half its market, nearly double Turning’s size and bring the newly acquired company’s warehouse jobs to the Mahoning Valley, Turning’s CEO said.
Just hours after closing the deal -- its terms were not disclosed -- Turning’s CEO. Mike Broderick, announced Tuesday that Turning has acquired its Scottsdale, Ariz.-based competitor, eInstruction.
Bluegrass Pipeline Project Explained to Landowners
Thursday, August 08, 2013COLUMBIANA, Ohio – Residents of Mahoning and Columbiana counties last night grasped a better understanding of a massive pipeline project that is slated to pass through the Mahoning Valley, as representatives of Bluegrass Pipeline LLC held an informational event for the public.
"I have some property that the right-of-way of this pipeline goes right through," said Don Floding, a resident of Columbiana County. "The property's been in the family since 1903 and there's a forest there. It's only about 11 acres and I'd hate to see them break it up."
Gulfport Says 'Wet' Utica Wells Show Strength
Thursday, August 08, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The president and CEO of Gulfport Energy Corp. said Wednesday that five of the company's wells producing in the "wet" gas window of the Utica shale are performing better than expected.
"It's still early for some of these wells, but production history show that these wells are producing better than our forecasted type curve," said Jim Palm, speaking in Oklahoma City during a conference call with analysts to discuss second-quarter results.
