Mastervich to executive vice president of operations/industrial director of its OCTG North America division. Mastervich was formerly president and chief operating officer of Vallourec Star. M. Judson Wallace assumes the position of president of Vallourec Star. Eric Shuster becomes president of VAM USA. The new assignments were effective Aug. 1.
Anti-Fracking Activists Call Coalition Effort 'Dangerous'
Friday, August 02, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Members of FrackFree Mahoning Valley say an organized and well-funded effort to squash the group's initiative to place a measure banning hydraulic fracturing before voters in November is "dangerous" to democracy.
"We view what they're doing is a misguided attempt to interfere with the fundamental right of placing the issue on the ballot," said Susie Beiersdorfer, an activist opposed to the use of hydraulic fracturing in the oil and gas industry.
Halcón Touts Kibler Well, Considers Processing Plant
Friday, August 02, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Halcón Resources is touting its Kibler 1H well in Lordstown, which the Houston company reports “tested at a rate of 2,233 barrels of oil equivalent a day (75% liquids), assuming full ethane recovery, which compares favorably to the other highly productive wells in the play.”
The Kibler well tested better than "all but ten wells across the entire play," said CEO Floyd C. Wilson during a conference call with analysts Thursday. "The test results for the Kibler 1H in Trumbull County and the Allen 1H in Venango County, Pennsylvania were excellent."
Chesapeake's New CEO 'Encouraged' About Utica
Friday, August 02, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Oil and gas production in eastern Ohio's Utica shale increased 48% during the second quarter of 2013 compared to the first quarter of the year, Chesapeake Energy Corp. executives said during a conference call Thursday to discuss financial results for the period.
The Oklahoma City-based energy company reported that net production from its 106 active wells in the Utica averaged approximately 85 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent per day during the quarter ending June 30.
Youngstown Gives River Bend Site to GLG Industries
Friday, August 02, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city Board of Control has transferred 0.4 acres in the River Bend area to GLG Industries Inc. so it can work with a Pittsburgh steel-processing company to build there.
GLG -- its corporate headquarters are at 4495 Market St. in Boardman -- is both a real estate developer and dealer in scrap metals, the website of Superpages.com says. Its owner is Ken Greco Sr. who is also owner of a scrap yard at 1609½ Wilson Ave.
Cortland Bancorp Reports Net Income of $799,000
Friday, August 02, 2013CORTLAND, Ohio -- Cortland Bancorp, holding company of Cortland Banks, reports second-quarter net income of $799,000, or 18 cents per share.
This compares to first-quarter net income of $830,000, or 18 cents a share, and second-quarter 2012 income of $952,000, or 21 cents per share.

Chevy Cruze Sales Climb 70% During Month of July

"Since it's introduction, Cruze continues to grow with the market. It's just a tremendous product that more and more people are starting to become aware of," said Don Johnson, vice president of Chevrolet sales and service.
