1963 Church Bombing Survivors to Speak Aug. 31

Kravitz to Head Equal Opportunity Office at YSU

Kravitz, former managing attorney of the Youngstown office of the Ohio attorney general, has been named director of Equal Opportunity and Policy Compliance at Youngstown State University. Kravitz is working out of the university office of general counsel.
Among her duties is investigating claims of discrimination and harassment on campus and coordinating policy compliance on behalf of the university.
Ideal Image to Open Aug. 20 in Boardman

Pa. Slot Machine Revenue Drops in July
Monday, August 12, 2013HARRISBURG, Pa. -- July gross revenue from slot machine play at Pennsylvania's 12 operating casinos was $204,909,480, down 3.7% from July 2012. The July total generated $109,707,423 of tax revenue to the Commonwealth.
Of local interest, slot machine revenue at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pa., was $12,374,078 -- a drop of 9.12% from July 2012. Presque Isle Downs is owned and operated by MTR Gaming Group Inc., which also owns and operates Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort in Chester, W.Va.
EVEP Sells Utica Acres to Undisclosed Buyer
Saturday, August 10, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- EV Energy Partners and the EnerVest institutional partnerships it manages is selling 22,535 leasehold acres in three southeastern counties for $284.3 million, the Houston company announced Friday. The buyer was not disclosed.
The total acreage associated with the sale includes 22,535 acres in Guernsey, Harrison and Noble counties. Of that total, EV Energy Partners is selling 4,345 acres for approximately $56 million, net to its ownership interest. EV will retain its overriding royalty interests in these acres, the company said.
Carver Completes Statue from Oak at General Store
Friday, August 09, 2013MESOPOTAMIA, Ohio – A sculpture carved from the trunk of a 350-year-old oak in front of the End of the Commons General Store has been completed,. The carving, a 15-foot-tall frontiersman representing Mesopotamia’s early settlers, was sculpted by Rock Creek artist Bob Anderson.
End of the Commons is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located at 8719 S.R. 534. it is Ohio’s oldest general store and one of the oldest operating general stores in the country, having operated continuously for more than 170 years.

Bevack to Retire as UCFC Chief, Search Begins

The board of UCFC has engaged Chartwell Partners to begin a search for his successor. The board also said it would retain Bevack as an adviser for two years.
Salvation Army Buys 224 Building for New Store
Friday, August 09, 2013BOARDMAN, Ohio -- The Salvation Army plans to open a family store and donation center in the former Oak Express building on Route 224 as early as this fall, a spokesman said Thursday.
The Christian nonprofit agency purchased the 14,756-square-foot building, located at 444 Boardman-Canfield Road, for $786,500, according to the website of the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office. Kutlick Realty LLC brokered the sale of the building, which was constructed in 1990.
