Turning Technologies Finalizes eInstruction Purchase
Wednesday, September 11, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Turning Technologies announced Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of eInstruction, a competitor in the audience response industry.
Turning, based in the Youngstown Business Incubator’s Taft Technology center downtown, reported Aug. 7 that it had reached an agreement to acquire eInstruction, which is based in Scotsdale, Ariz. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
United Methodist Wins CommunIT Tech Giveaway

Funds Ready for Ohio Employers to Train Workforces
Wednesday, September 11, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A pre-application is available for businesses who want financial help to train their workforces, the Ohio Development Services Agency announced Tuesday.
The agency is launching the second round of the Ohio Incumbent Workforce Training Voucher Program, which will make $30 million in fiscal 2014 funds available to employers for training.
Grants totaling $27 million will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The remaining $3 million will be used for loans. Applications for the grant program will be accepted for review Sept. 30.
Obama Nominates Jay Williams to Be Assistant Commerce Secretary
Tuesday, September 10, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Jay Williams, the city's former mayor, has been nominated by President Barack Obama to head the Economic Development Administration in the U.S. Department of Commerce. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
Obama also announced today that former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has been appointed as alternate representative to the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
F.N.B. Corp. to Open Regional HQ in Baltimore
Tuesday, September 10, 2013HERMITAGE, Pa. -- F.N.B. Corp., parent of First National Bank of Pennsylvania, announced Tuesday that it will open a regional headquarters at 300 E. Lombard St., in downtown Baltimore, Md., and be named the First National Bank Building.
The structure will offer more than 11,000 square feet of office pace and be ready for occupancy by year-end, the president and CEO of the bank and its holding company, Vincent J. Delie Jr., said.

NFIB Small Business Survey Sends Mixed Signals
Tuesday, September 10, 2013WASHINGTON – Optimism among small-business owners remained flat in August, despite plans for job creation not seen since prior to the Great Recession, the National Federation of Independent Businesses reported in its most recent survey.
Small-business owners’ optimism was at 94.0 in August, down 0.1 points from July, according to the report.
Brown Urges ValleyCare to Settle with Nurses

Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, released a letter Monday he has written to Kirk Ray, CEO of Northside Medical Center and ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, that urges hospital negotiators “to work towards a fair and equitable agreement with more than 400 of its nurses who have been without a contract since July 19, 2012.”
