Pethel to Head First National Bank in Cleveland
Tuesday, September 17, 2013HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Boyd K. Pethel has been named president and market executive of the Cleveland region of First National Bank of Pennsylvania, Vincent J. Delie, president and CEO, announced Tuesday.
First National Bank is the largest subsidiary of F.N.B. Corp.
In his role, Pethel is responsible for “integrating First National Bank’s successful cross-functional business model and developing business opportunities in the greater Cleveland area,” the bank said in its announcement.
Timeline Set for Demolition of RG Steel's Warren Mill
Tuesday, September 17, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- In two years hence, little is likely to remain of a manufacturing complex that for a century turned out steel in the Mahoning Valley.
Demolition plans were approved Thursday and the first permits were issued Friday to level portions of RG Steel’s cold mill operations in Howland Township, which were left vacant since the company filed bankruptcy and auctioned off a portion of its assets, reported Kim Mascarella, township planning and zoning director.

The curator of the Shrine of the Book in Jerusalem, Adolfo D. Roitman, Ph.D., held the audience of 220 spellbound more than an hour and a half as he traced their discovery by Bedouins in the Judean Desert in the summers of 1946 and 1947 to their recent release in their entirety, 40 volumes, to the world on the Internet.
CCPA Takes Steps to Provide Wireless Connectivity
Tuesday, September 17, 2013EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio --The Columbiana County Port Authority resumed its efforts Monday night to bring wireless connectivity to East Liverpool and Wellsville.
The board engaged Ice Miller Whiteboard LLC, a consulting firm, and will pay it $5,000 to pursue a $100,000 grant for a more detailed study of what’s involved in providing residents and businesses in those two municipalities with wireless, and some wired, connection to the Internet.
Much of Columbiana County lacks wireless connectivity.

Ohio Business Filings Drop Slightly in August
Tuesday, September 17, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio – The owners of 7,094 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in August, the office of secretary of state reports. This number is slightly less than August 2012, when 7,341 new entities were filed.
The office of secretary of state has helped 62,323 new businesses file from January through August, it says. This is an increase from the eight months last year when there were 60,069 filings.
Although these numbers don’t provide a complete picture of the jobs climate in the state, they are an important indicator of economic activity within.

Cortland Exits Wholesale Mortgage Business
Monday, September 16, 2013CORTLAND, Ohio -- Cortland Banks abruptly exited the wholesale mortgage business Friday with an announcement from its president and CEO, James Gasior. “The board of directors and management [of Cortland Bancorp] have decided that CSB Mortgage Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of its commercial banking unit, The Cortland Savings and Banking Co., will cease wholesale mortgage operations effective immediately,” the company said.
