Price of Houses Rises in the Mahoning Valley
Thursday, September 05, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- House prices in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area were 5% higher in July than in July 2012, the latest CoreLogic Home Price Index reports. House prices rose by 0.3 % in July compared to June.
Excluding distressed sales, year-over-year prices increased 8.2% in July compared to July 2012 in the metro region, CoreLogic says. Distressed sales include short sales and the sale of repossess real estate.

‘88 Hearts for YSU’ Piano Scholarship Drive

The concert is the launch of an endeavor to establish the endowed scholarship for piano students at YSU.

GM Sales Increase 15%; Best Sales Since 2008
Wednesday, September 04, 2013DETROIT -- General Motors Co. reported sales increased 15% during August compared to the same period a year ago, led by strong sales of the Chevrolet Equinox, Cruze and Silverado pickup.
GM said it sold 275,847 new vehicles during the month. Retail sales were up 22%, while fleet sales were down 8%.
It was GM's best sales month since 2008 and the highest of 2013, the company said.

Exports Value from Foreign-Trade Zones Jumps 147.9%
Wednesday, September 04, 2013WASHINGTON -- The value of exports from U.S. foreign-trade zones increased by 147.9% between 2009 and 2012 to a record-high $69.9 billion in merchandise shipped abroad, says the U.S. Foreign-Trade Zones Board in its annual report to Congress.
At $732.2 billion, the 2012 value of received merchandise into foreign-trade zones also reached a new high, for the first time surpassing the previous pre-recession 2008 record of $692.6 billion.

Committee Hears Paramount Update, Sign Requests
Wednesday, September 04, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Work at the site of the former Paramount Theater downtown should be competed pretty much on schedule, toward the end of the month, the city’s chief engineer told members of the Design Review Committee.
In March, the city awarded a contract to Baumann Enterprises Inc. of Cleveland for demolition and abatement work at the site of the long-vacant theater after efforts to retain the building’s façade proved unsuccessful. The site is being converted to a parking lot with landscaped patio space toward the front of the lot, along West Federal Street.
