Enrollment Rises 11% at Eastern Gateway
Monday, September 09, 2013STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- 2013 continues to be a banner year for enrollment records at Eastern Gateway Community College. Preliminary headcount stands at 2,816, an all-time high for the college that serves Jefferson, Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, and the largest increase is at the Valley Center in Youngstown and online within 10 miles of the center.
In fall 2012, enrollment was 2,532, so this year’s count reflects an 11% increase. Enrollment was up 3% in the spring semester and the summer sessions.
Community Bill of Rights Foes Withdraw Objections
Saturday, September 07, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning County Board of Elections meeting was packed Friday evening as 30 or so who attended braced for a fight to put an initiative on the November ballot that would ban hydraulic fracturing within the city.
The fight never came.
Instead, about five minutes into the meeting, board chairman Mark Munroe tossed a bombshell. Munroe announced that landowners had withdrawn a protest that would have prevented the measure from being placed on the ballot, eliciting loud cheers from the audience.

FactSet Research Systems Buys YBI's Revere Data
Friday, September 06, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Revere Data LLC, which opened a research office on the Youngstown Business Incubator campus three years ago, has been purchased by FactSet Research Systems Inc. of Norwalk, Conn. Terms were not disclosed.
FactSet provides financial information and analytics to more than 48,000 clients that use its services “to stay ahead of global market trends,” the company says. Its shares trade on both the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq exchange.
Covelli Enterprises, City Extend Arena Naming Rights
Friday, September 06, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Covelli Enterprises will pay the city more money to keep its name on the Covelli Centre for another three years. The agreement, announced this morning, provides for an annual fee of $200,000 -- up from the $175,000 agreed to in a one-year extension of the original three-year naming rights contract, which set the annual fee at $120,000.
