Duncan's Bath-Kitchen Makes Top 500 List

Autism Society Begins Circle of Friends Program

Quaker Steak Wins National Buffalo Wing Festival

Kent Trumbull Enrollment Down Just 14 Students

The decline amounts to less than .5% from the fall 2012 number of 3,107.
NABE Panel Sees Economy Making More Gains in 2014
Monday, September 09, 2013WASHINGTON -- The economy will continue to pick up, but at a faster pace, to 3.0% next year from 2.3% this quarter, a panel of business economists said in their macroeconomic forecast released today.
The 43 economists, members of the National Association for Business Economics, expect “inflation to remain slow and the labor market to show improvement,” reports Nayantara Hensel, chairwoman of the NABE Outlook Survey conducted Aug. 8 through 20. Hensel is a professor of economics at National Defense University.
For Whatever Reason, Small Firms Aren’t Borrowing
Monday, September 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Banks lending to small businesses across the nation “has dropped substantially since the Great Recession,” the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank reports, which is reflected in the slow recovery since 2009.
Two researchers at the Cleveland Fed, Ann Marie Wiersch and Scott Shane, explored why and noted the paradox of an increase of nearly 100,000 small businesses since the recovery began but a drop of 344,000 loans to such enterprises between 2007 and 2012 vis-à-vis loans made before the onset of the recession.
Huntington Offers Choice with 'Voice' MasterCard
Monday, September 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- After an absence of 13 years, Huntington Bank has re-entered the credit-card business by introducing Voice MasterCard. Voice gives customers the choice of earning rewards or paying a lower rate of interest, 3% lower if they forgo bonus points, on unpaid balances.
Based on the cardholder’s credit score, the annual rate the bank would charge on unpaid balances ranges from 6.99% to 20.99%, says Mark Sheehan, Huntington’s director of payments and channels, if he chooses to forgo the bonus points.
FBI Agent to Lecture on 'Active Shooter’ Situations
Monday, September 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Todd Werth, supervisory special agent with the FBI, will present “Active Shooter/Threats: Civilian Response in the Workplace, Schools, and Other Public Places” at 3:30 p.m. next Monday at Youngstown State University. The presentation is part of its Alumni Lecture Series.
The two-hour presentation will touch on what individuals who are not law enforcement can do when someone starts shooting at bystanders inside a school, workplace or other public place.
Athena Meet-and-Mentor Luncheon Set for Sept. 18

The luncheon will be held in Fellows Riverside Gardens at Mill Creek Park, with the program from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Its premise is that established leaders invite emerging leaders as their guests to dine, meet other female leaders and explore perspectives on leadership.
