Roger and Gloria Jones Endow YSU Scholarships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The founders of Fieline Inc., Roger and Gloria Jones, have endowed two scholarships at Youngstown State University, Paul McFadden, president of the YSU Foundation, announced today.
The couple have long been generous supporters of YSU and other educational efforts in the Mahoning Valley, giving both their time and money. Fireline, based here, manufactures higher-performance ceramics.
Both scholarships, named in honor of the Joneses, are held by the YSU Foundation.

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The final count of fall enrollment at Eastern Gateway Community College is 3,195, a 10% increase from last fall, the college announced Thursday. The jump is the largest -- and one of the few -- increases among community colleges in the state, according to officials.
The increase is the result of 7% more new students and a 12% increase in the retention rate. Patty Sturch, dean of enrollment management, reported that enrollment on the Jefferson Campus in Steubenville remained even.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown State University Board of Trustees last night unanimously ratified a tentative agreement for a new three-year contract with the YSU-Ohio Education Association, the union representing university faculty.
The agreement must now be ratified by the union membership in order to create a new collective bargaining agreement. As of this posting, the faculty union has not set a date for the ratification vote.
YSU Recognizes Recipients of $7M in Research Grants

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown State University faculty and staff were awarded more than $7 million in external funding for research projects during fiscal 2013-14, more than double the amount secured a year earlier, officials say.
"It was a good year for external grants, not our best year, but a good year," said Scott Martin, interim associate dean for research at the YSU School of Graduate Studies and Research. "We had about $7.2 million in external grants. In fiscal year 2013, we had $3.5 million."
Fok Family Donates $2.5 Million to YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Fok family is donating $2.5 million to Youngstown State University in memory of the late Thomas Fok, who served on its faculty and as a trustee of both YSU and the YSU Foundation.
The gift from Fok’s wife, Maria M.L. Fok, will be used in part to establish the Thomas and Maria Fok Scholarship. In recognition of the gift, YSU will rename Alumni House on Wick Avenue Fok Hall. Alumni House, built in 1865, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
