Retired Nurse Gives $100K to Endow YSU Scholarship

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Retired nurse Susan Spencer Briney has given $100,000 to the Youngstown State University Foundation to fund the Susan Spencer Briney Scholarship for students who pursue undergraduate degrees in nursing, Paul McFadden, president of the foundation, announced today.

KSU Trustees OK $94.75M for Science Buildings

KENT, Ohio -- Trustees of Kent State University have approved a $94.75 million investment in science technology and infrastructure.

The trustees approved construction of a $37.55 million integrated sciences building for the college of arts and sciences, and in a separate action, approved $57.2 million for renovations to the existing science building and laboratories on the Kent Campus Science Mall.

Westminster College President at White House Today

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Richard Dorman, president of Westminster College, is visiting President Barack Obama and his wife and Vice President Joe Biden along with hundreds of other college presidents and leaders in higher eduction to announce new actions intended to help more students prepare for and graduate from college.

Meeks to Visit White House, Previews Warren Center

WARREN, Ohio -- Dr. Laura Meeks, president of Eastern Gateway Community College, will visit the White House tomorrow for a conference celebrating efforts by colleges, universities and community colleges to graduate their students.

President Obama and his wife, Michelle, and Vice President Joe Biden are expected to attend the event, Meeks said Tuesday. It is Meeks’ second invitation to the White House in two years.

Kent State Salem Students to Showcase Research

SALEM, Ohio -- Kent State University at Salem is holding its fall undergraduate research conference at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to recognize students for their research and have them share what they learned.

David Dees will deliver the keynote address, “The ‘Aha!’ Moment: Why Your Brain Likes Doing Research” in the student lounge.

Oral presentations are scheduled for 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m. in the library. Research posters will be displayed and judged in the student lounge at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
