Donors Who Feel the Pain Give More, Study Finds
Wednesday, October 22, 2014PITTSBURGH -- No one enjoys inflicting pain or discomfort upon himself, such as dumping a bucket of ice water over his head -- unless it's for a good cause, new research from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University has found.
Most 2014 College Grads' Jobs Don't Require Degree

CHICAGO -- The majority of Class of 2014 college graduates are working. But 51% of that group are in jobs that don't require a degree, according to a new CareerBuilder survey.
This total includes 45% of four-year degree graduates and 57% of associate degree graduates.
Some 65% of recent college grads are employed, 4% are in internships, and 31% are not working at all, although many in the latter group simply haven't started their job search or are already back in school to pursue a higher degree, the survey found.
Hess Corp. Sets Up YSU Scholarship for Engineering

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Hess Corp., a global energy company, has established a scholarship for engineering students at Youngstown State University, the university announced today. The scholarship is available to residents of Jefferson, Harrison, Belmont and Guernsey counties.
The scholarship is intended to encourage and support students pursuing a degree in civil, mechanical, systems, electrical and construction engineering and is open to nontraditional students and displaced workers who return to college to regain employment.
Food Production Business Program Oct. 31

SALEM, Ohio -- "Making Connections to Grow Your Business" is the focus of a day-long program to be held Oct. 31 at the Kent State University campus here. The program is for those thinking about becoming involved in the production, processing, distribution or delivery of locally grown food.
It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and lunch and refreshments will be served. Cost is $25 per person to cover food and refreshments.
Chamber Backs Common Core, Opposes H.B. 597

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s board of directors announced it voted to oppose Ohio House Bill 597, which would eliminate the Common Core learning standards in the state’s public schools.
In a news release announcing the board’s decision, the Regional Chamber said repealing Common Core would place a “tremendous burden on local school districts and educational service centers which have spent considerable time and money over the last four years preparing for implementation.”
