Ohio Saves Consumers $1.26M on Medicare Open Enrollment
Tuesday, October 30, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- During this annual coverage selection period, the Ohio Insurance Department has helped 12,496 Ohioans with their questions about Medicare and helped them realize a record $1.266 million in savings. Open enrollment began Oct. 15 and concludes at midnight Dec. 7.
Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, who also serves as director of the Department of Insurance, made the announcment Monday.
First Place Files Chapter 11, Agrees to $45M Asset Sale
Monday, October 29, 2012WARREN, Ohio – First Place Financial Corp., holding company for First Place Bank, today filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced its assets will be sold to Talmar Bancorp Inc. of Troy, Mich. for $45 million. As part of the sale agreement, Talmar “has agreed to recapitalize the bank through the immediate contribution of additional capital, which is not expected to exceed $205 million,” First Place stated in documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

$1M Gift Establishes Centofanti Center at YSU

Preliminary Steel Imports Decline 9% in September
Monday, October 29, 2012WASHINGTON -- Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute reports 2.44 million net tons of steel were produced in September. This includes 1.87 million net tons of finished steel.
The total and finished steel numbers are down 9% and 8%, respectively, from August final data.

Sales Rise 11.9% at Stoneridge in Third Quarter
Monday, October 29, 2012WARREN, Ohio -- Stoneridge Inc. reports net sales of $219.3 million for the third quarter, up 11.9% from a year ago. Net income was $400,000, or 2 cents per diluted share, down from $4.5 million, or 18 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2011.
The decrease in net income was attributed to lower sales in the commercial vehicle markets in both North America and Europe while the sales increase resulted from the consolidation of operating results of PST, the Brazilian subsidiary in which Stoneridge acquired controlling interest Dec. 31, 2011.

Sunday, October 28, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The results of a poll released today by daily newspapers across Ohio (CLICK TO READ), including The Vindicator, shows Mitt Romney and President Obama each getting 49% of the likely votes.
The poll was conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati from Oct. 18-23. A large sample of voters, more than 1,000, was questioned, mostly before the last presidential debate.
