Ahead of Obama/Clinton Visit, Poll Finds Ohio Tied
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The results of a poll released today by daily newspapers across Ohio (CLICK TO READ), including The Vindicator, shows Mitt Romney and President Obama each getting 49% of the likely votes.
The poll was conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati from Oct. 18-23. A large sample of voters, more than 1,000, was questioned, mostly before the last presidential debate.

This afternoon Rahm Emanuel, the mayor of Chicago and former chief of Obama's White House staff, will conduct a press event at the Covelli Centre in advance of tomorrow’s visit by Obama and former President Bill Clinton. Obama and Clinton are scheduled to speak about 5:30 at the arena following their arrival at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport on Air Force One.
In the wake of Hurricana Sandy lashing the eastern seaboard, a joint appearance by the presidents planned for Virginia, in advance of the Youngstown stop, has been cancelled, as well as an Obama rally in Colorado Springs, Col. Instead, reports Politico, "Obama will try to beat out Sandy by leaving Washington for Florida on Sunday afternoon, before the brunt of the storm is expected to hit the D.C. metro area. He will hold an event in Youngstown before returning to Washington to monitor the storm."
Mitt Romney is also scheduled to campaign in northeast Ohio tomorrow, and will appear at a noontime rally in Avon Lake. Today Romney and his running mate are jointly campaigning at three Ohio cities, Celina, Findlay and Marion.
Regarding security arrangements for Obama and Clinton’s visit tomorrow, the Youngstown Police Department has issued the following advisory:
- There will be no parking permitted on Front Street from South Avenue to Phelps Street.,
- South Avenue will be blocked off from the freeway to downtown; Walnut Street will be blocked off from Boardman Street to Front Street. However, there will be vehicle access provided to the post office.
- Champion Street will be blocked from Boardman Street to Front Street Market Street will be open except for a brief closure.
- All motorists should use the North, East and West approaches in and out of downtown on Monday after 12 noon to avoid delays. Early morning traffic will not be affected by the visit. Motorists can commute to work as normal.
- All parking decks and surface lots will be open and available for public parking. All attendee’s should allow ample time to access parking. Parking will be limited at the Covelli Center. Access to this parking will be available from the Phelps Street entrance off of Front Street.
