Friday, November 02, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A draft permit to expand the Carbon Limestone Landfill in Poland Township will be the reason for a public meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 hosted by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
The company is requesting a lateral and vertical expansion of its solid-waste landfill at 8100 S. Stateline Road.
Chamber Honors Elected Officials at Mixer, Wine Taste
Friday, November 02, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The second annual Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber Government Affairs Council Elected Officials Mixer and Wine Taste, “A Salute to Elected Officials,” is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19.
The mixer will be held at the Youngstown Country Club in Liberty Township.
The chamber expects officeholders in the Mahoning Valley to attend. Last year’s event drew more than 200.

Permit Issued for Shale Gas Well in Poland Township
Thursday, November 01, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued a new horizontal well permit to Hilcorp Energy Co. so it can proceed with drilling operations in Poland Township, records show.
ODNR issued the permit Oct. 24 and it grants Hilcorp permission to drill on land near Republic Services' Carbon Limestone Landfill in Mahoning County, records show. The name of the new well is CLL1-1H
Shares of First Place Fall to 4¢, End Day at 7¢
Thursday, November 01, 2012WARREN, Ohio -- Shares of First Place Financial Corp., which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday, plummeted to 4 cents Wednesday after opening at 18 cents. They closed at 7 cents on the heaviest trading ever in the history of the provider of financial services, a volume of 2,657,485, or 14.67% of its outstanding shares.
The 4 cents was the worst stock price for First Place Financial since Nov. 18, 2011, eight days after it began trading over-the-counter, to close at 15 cents.
Teamsters Say They'll Keep Working at Allied Waste
Thursday, November 01, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Workers represented by the Teamsters at Allied Waste's operations in the Mahoning Valley planned to report to work today without a new collective bargaining agreement, but a labor representative said that talks are expected to continue.
"We're going to continue to bargain in good faith and have meetings set up in November," said Ralph "Sam" Cook, secretary-treasurer of the Teamsters Local 377, which represents about 80 employees at Republic Services/Allied Waste operations in the Valley.
