Wednesday, July 31, 2013VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Members of the 910th Airlift Wing, based at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station here, testified Tuesday in Columbus before the National Commission on the Structure of the Air Force as the commission tours Air Force bases across Ohio.
And, in a show of bipartisan solidarity in support of the base, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, and U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, have each submitted letters to the commission that emphasize the importance of the installation to the country and the local community.
YBI Ranks 11th on International Incubator List
Wednesday, July 31, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown Business Incubator is listed 11th among the 30 best university affiliated incubators in the world, according to the University Business Incubator Index, a research initiative based in Stockholm that specializes in benchmarking incubators.
While the list is primarily comprised of university based incubation programs, it was noted that YBI is not officially affiliated with Youngstown State University, although the two institutions work together closely to improve the region.

Coalition Urges Voters to Snub Anti-Fracking Petition
Tuesday, July 30, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Members of a coalition composed of business, labor and political leaders today urged residents not to sign a petition supporting a proposed charter amendment that would ban hydraulic fracturing and other oil and gas-related developments in the city.
"This proposed charter is a terrible law," declared Alan Wenger, a partner at Harrington Hoppe and Mitchell in Youngstown and a member of the Mahoning Valley Coalition for Job Growth and Investment. "Having a bad, unenforceable, unconstitutional law takes the eye away from the ball."
Kensington Gas Processing Plant Begins Operations
Tuesday, July 30, 2013KENSINGTON, Ohio -- What oil and gas producers have longed for in the Utica shale is now starting to come on line -- and sales have begun of natural gas processed at the huge new cryogenic plant here.
The initial phase of Utica East Ohio Midstream LLC's cryogenic plant is now in operation, allowing for the first time natural gas from nearby wells in this part of eastern Ohio to be processed and marketed, officials reported late Monday.

A host of speakers and musicians took to the stage at the "Don't Frack Ohio 2" rally, all of them expressing their concerns that injection wells -- and the oil and gas industry's use of hydraulic fracturing during the well completion stage -- stand to contaminate the environment for generations to come.
