YSU Celebrates Issuance of Its First US Patent
Friday, September 19, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The first U.S. patent awarded to Youngstown State University should draw additional funding for future research projects, secure more support from the administration, and encourage other researchers and academics to pursue new and exciting ideas that can also be patented.
"I hope that this will actually inspire my colleagues who are involved in research to aim for that kind of target -- to get a patent," said Tom Oder, an assistant professor of physics whose decade of work has resulted the first patent in the history of the university.
Workforce Training Program to Begin Round 3 Funding
Thursday, September 18, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With more than 80,000 employees in the state trained through the Ohio Incumbent Workforce Training Voucher Program, reports David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency, the state is making a third round of funding, $29.4 million, available to businesses.
The paperwork required upfront has been reduced from previous funding rounds, Goodman says, and companies will have five additional months to complete the training.
Tressel Names Abraham Interim YSU Provost, VP
Wednesday, September 17, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Martin Abraham, founding dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Youngstown State University, has been named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at YSU, pending official approval by the board of trustees at its Oct. 7 meeting.
YSU President Jim Tressel announced the appointment today after discussions with the trustees Tuesday afternoon. The appointment will become effective after the board’s approval.
