GE, Union Reach Tentative Deal on Warren Plant
Thursday, March 28, 2013WARREN, Ohio – Members of IUE-CWA Local 722 are expected to vote Monday on a proposal to keep the lights on -- and production continuing -- at General Electric's Ohio Lamp Plant here.
Chris Augustine, manager of global communications and public affairs for GE Lighting, confirmed a tentative agreement in place between GE and the union that represents workers at the Ohio Lamp plant, and said he believes a vote would take place early next week.
'Moving the Goal Line' or Project 'Cutting Corners?'
Thursday, March 28, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A spokesman for Penn National Gaming Inc. complained Wednesday that the state panel considering the application to transfer a thoroughbred license to a proposed new track in Austintown is “continually moving the goal line” for the project.
But commission members say they’re acting in the best interests of the racing industry and that Penn National “is trying to cut corners” to put together the track and video lottery terminal project.
Pinewood Races Teach Inner-City Scouts Fairness
Thursday, March 28, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The five-ounce block of pinewood a boy holds in his hands at the Williamson Elementary School teaches him character, responsibility, fairness, patriotism, teamwork and other virtues that Cub Scouts strive for.
The five-ounce blocks of wood that more than 500 boys sanded and decorated this month in seven inner-city schools -- four in Youngstown and three in Warren -- became racecars in the Pinewood Races held in the gymnasiums of the schools.

Northeast Ohio gas prices dropped half a cent to $3.727 per gallon this week, down about four cents from a month ago, the East Central branch of the American Automobile Association reported Tuesday.
