New Deli Sells Tastes of Polish Heritage
Wednesday, November 28, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio – Marta Mazur lived in the Mahoning Valley for four years before deciding to open her own Polish delicatessen.
Mazur, a native of Gdynia, Poland, moved to the United States in 1981 and previously lived on the East Coast, where there are "tons of little ethnic stores, especially the Polish delis, and I missed that when I moved to the Youngstown area," she said. Mazur now lives, appropriately enough, in Poland, the Valley suburb -- and after driving long distances to purchase authentic Polish products, she decided to open her own deli.
Wean Foundation Revises Criteria to Award Grants
Wednesday, November 28, 2012WARREN, Ohio -- The Raymond John Wean Foundation is revising the criteria it uses to award grants, Jeffrey M. Glebocki announced Tuesday.
Glebocki is president of the foundation.
Through what the foundation has begun calling “Big Bets," foundation staff is working to help the Mahoning Valley reinvigorate itself through new, combined efforts to engage residents as leaders, strengthen community organizations and foster collective efforts and impact.
Farmers National Banc Corp. Declares 2 Dividends
Wednesday, November 28, 2012CANFIELD, Ohio – Farmers National Banc Corp., holding company of Farmers National Bank and Farmers Trust Co., declared a quarterly dividend and special dividend, both for 3 cents per common share, the holding company announced Tuesday.
Both are payable Dec. 31 to shareholders of record Dec. 14.

BWC Launches Online Tool for Employers
Wednesday, November 28, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation has launched a new online tool, My Policy Page, intended to make it easier for employers to navigate and manage the details of their workers' compensation insurance policies.
My Policy Page at ohiobwc.com allows most employers to view important policy, rating plan, and claims information at the click of a button, BWC says.
The new page also displays each employer's program eligibility to highlight any opportunities they may be missing to save on their premiums.

Treasury Asks First Place: Why the Rush to Sell?
Tuesday, November 27, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The U.S. Treasury Department is objecting to First Place Financial Corp. selling the assets of its bank to Talmer Bancorp Inc. of Troy, Mich., for $45 million, arguing the sale process “is occurring too quickly” and the bankruptcy bidding procedures First Place seeks “do not maximize the value of the bank.”
So, too, is the Official Committee of Trust Preferred Securities objecting to the sale, arguing the government stands to recover nothing and First Place Bank has been profitable the last two quarters.
