Eastern Ohio P-16 to Recognize Schools, Teachers
WARREN, Ohio -- The Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education will host its third annual “Excellence in Education: Celebrating our Schools” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 4 at the Mahoning County Career& Technical Center, Canfield.
More than 100 building principals from Ashtabula, Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties will be recognized for their students achieving Excellent or Excellent with Distinction on the Ohio Report Card.
Also at the event, Lakeside Intermediate and Michigan Primary (Ashtabula Area City School District), Conneaut Middle (Conneaut Area City School District), Leetonia Middle (Leetonia Exempted Village School District), Daw Middle (Wellsville Local School District), Girard Junior High (Girard City School District) and LaBrae Intermediate (LaBrae Local School District) will be recognized for moving up two levels on the 2011-2012 Ohio Report Card.
The Partnership and Turning Foundation also will recognize three area teachers for their innovation in education: Kathy Bennett, media specialist, Crestview Local School District; Terrence Grimm, social studies teacher, Trumbull County Career & Technical Center; and Sarah Lowe, mathematics and science teacher, Beaver Local Middle School. The winner will be announced at the luncheon.
Delivering the main address is Rebecca Watts, associate vice chancellor academic affairs for the P-16 Initiative. She oversees agency initiatives that rely on coordination between the University System of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Education and P-12 schools. Her speech is scheduled for 11:50 a.m., followed by the innovative teacher awards at 12:20 p.m. and recognition of individual schools at 12:40 p.m.
Among the community partners are the Dominion Foundation, Youngstown State University, Eastern Gateway Community College, Packer Thomas and Turning Technologies.
