'Don’t Frack Ohio 2' Rally Monday in Warren
Thursday, July 25, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- The "Don't Frack Ohio 2" rally is set for Monday in Courthouse Square, organizers say. Information tables will be set up by 11:30 a.m. and the speakers will begin their remarks at 1:30 p.m.
Organizers describe the rally as a response to what they see as growing concerns that the oil and gas industry has targeted Ohio for disposal of wastewater from hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking. They are calling on the state Legislature and Gov. John Kasich to ban underground injection of toxic and “potentially radioactive” waste.
Farmers Banc Corp. Reports Net Income of $1.9M
Thursday, July 25, 2013CANFIELD, Ohio – Farmers National Banc Corp., holding company of Farmers National Bank and Farmers Trust Co., Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $1.9 million, or 10 cents per basic and diluted share.
This compares to first-quarter net income of $2 million, or 11 cents a share, and second-quarter 2012 net income of $2.3 million, or 12 cents a share.
Cost of School Supplies (Blame Technology) Jumps
Thursday, July 25, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio –- Increasing costs of school supplies and extracurricular activities for students in grades K-12 will dramatically outpace inflation the upcoming school year as measured by the Consumer Price Index, according to Huntington Bank’s eighth annual Backpack Index. For the many high school students who want a mid-priced $300 tablet computer, the CPI measures that increase as 36%.
Relative to 2012, costs will increase an average of 7.3% for K-12 school supplies compared to 1.39%, according to the Backpack Index.

Soft Touch Furniture, 1560 State St., Girard, Tuesday shipped its very first order to Saudi Arabia as part of a long-standing relationship the company has with Boardwalk Burgers and Fries, reports Jessie Abeid, production manager at Soft Touch.
"It started out with orders in California and Texas for Boardwalk and they wanted to us to do one of the jobs in Saudi Arabia," Abeid says.

F.N.B. Reports 2nd-Quarter Net Income of $29.19M

This compares to first-quarter net income of $28.54 million, or 20 cents a share, and second-quarter 2012 net income of $29.13 million, or 21 cents a share.
Foreclosure Rate Drops to 3.85% in Metro Area
Wednesday, July 24, 2013IRVINE, Calif. -- Foreclosure rates in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman fell in May compared to May 2012, according to new data from CoreLogic. The figures represent the number of foreclosures in Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County in Pennsylvania.
The rate in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman among outstanding mortgage loans was 3.85% in May, a decrease of 0.82% compared to May 2012 when the rate was 4.67%. Foreclosure activity in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman was higher than the national rate, 2.61% for May.
