Antero Reduces Frac Stages to Increase Well Production
Thursday, September 19, 2013DENVER -- Antero Resources LLC, the company that's reported the best results to date in the southern tier of Ohio’s Utica shale play, says it is will use shorter-stage lengths to hydraulically fracture wells for oil and wet gas production.
During the second quarter, Antero said it began completing most of its liquids-rich Marcellus shale wells with shorter stage lengths. Antero’s traditional frac design resulted in stage lengths averaging 350 feet per state compared to the newly completed wells that averaged stages lengths of 150- to 250 feet.
Seismic Demo Shakes Up Interest in Shale Jobs
Thursday, September 19, 2013NORTH JACKSON, Ohio -- A geophysicist with Halcon Resources sought to shake up interest in geoscience Wednesday with a demonstration of seismic testing at Jackson Milton High School.
Some 60 students took a break from their studies for a demonstration of seismic testing, a process used by the oil and gas industry to discern what's below ground before they begin digging. "There is a limited number of geophysicists. By the way, we need more," John Tinnin, the Halcon geophysicist, told the students.

Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator Opens Oct. 10
Thursday, September 19, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Common Wealth Inc. will celebrate the grand opening from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 10 of the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator, 907 Elm St., incubator manager Ben Shapiro announces. Admission is $30 per person.
The celebration will offer food and drink from local food vendors, bakers, wineries and breweries plus live music. Shapiro will lead e tours and make pizzas in the incubator pizza oven. A cash bar will be available in the bar space soon to be called the Elm Street Café, which will serve coffee, smoothies and lunch.
Ohio ID Theft Unit Gets 600+ Complaints
Thursday, September 19, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In its first year, the identity theft unit of the Ohio Attorney General’s consumer protection section received more than 600 complaints, reports the attorney general, Mike DeWine. In addition, the unit helped to adjust or dismiss some $250,000 in charges that victims disputed, according to information provided in complaints.
Just 9% of Cleveland-Area CFOs Plan to Hire
Thursday, September 19, 2013CLEVELAND -- Just 9% of chief financial officers in the Cleveland/Akron/Canton region expect to add new professional-level positions in the fourth quarter, Robert Half, a human resources company, says.
In addition, 11% of will not be hiring, even to fill an open position, and 3% plan to reduce staff levels, Half’s Cleveland Professional Employment Forecast says based on a survey. Another 76% said they will hire for roles that open during the next three months.
