Tim Ryan, D-Ohio 17, has urged Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis to expedite the petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance for the estimated 1100 union and 135 salaried employees in the 17th District who have been affected by the layoffs at RG Steel Inc. LLC.
RG Steel iissued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notices May 24 and layoffs began June 4 at its plants in Warren, Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia.

Friday, June 22, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – U.S. Sen. Rob Portman doesn’t believe Ohio’s improving jobs picture complicates Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s message in the state.
Ohio’s May unemployment rate was 7.3%, compared with the U.S. jobless rate of 8.2%. In April, the state posted a jobless rate of 7.4%, while the U.S. rate was 8.1%.
