BWC Accepting Applications for Transitional Work Grants

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation is accepting applications for a new Transitional Work Grant Program. It is designed to assist employers in developing transitional work programs that return employees to work or keep them working in some capacity following a workplace injury.

ValleyCare, Northside Nurses to Continue Talks

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Negotiations between registered nurses at Northside Medical Center and its management will continue but not until early August.

No agreement was reached on a new contract between the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association, which represents registered nurses at Northside, and the hospital, a part of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, an affiliate of Community Health Systems Inc., during the sixth negotiating session between the parties, according to the YGDNA website. The current contract expires at midnight Friday.

Local Podiatrists Contribute Chapters in Textbook

BOARDMAN, Ohio -- The next generation of orthopedic and podiatric surgeons around the world may be studying from a textbook written in part by a pair of Youngstown-area podiatric physicians Lawrence A. DiDomenico and Thomas Groner. Both are podiatric surgeons at Ankle & Foot Care Centers here.

DiDomenico wrote three chapters in the recently published “International Advances in Foot and Ankle Surgery” textbook being used in medical and podiatry schools globally. Groner co-authored two of the three chapters.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – ValleyCare Health System of Ohio responded moments ago to the threat of a strike by nurses at Northside Medical Center with a lengthy statement setting forth management's positions on the issues under negotiation.

Thursday night members of the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association voted to authorize union negotiations to issue Northside Medical Center a 10-day strike notice.
