Report: BWC Pharmacy Initiative Paying Off

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation's first-ever formulary and a number of other pharmacy initiatives are helping in efforts to increase positive outcomes for injured workers, a new report has determined. The number of narcotics prescribed to injured workers is down by 12%, or 1.1 million doses.
Windsor's Champion Center Nears Opening

CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Construction of the Windsor House assisted-living home in Champion Township could be completed as early as Sept. 1.
Danny Rowland, director of marketing for Windsor House Inc., confirmed the date.
The increased demand for assisted living prompted the company to build the home, Champion Estates on Champion Avenue.
“This is a needed area for an assisted living community,” says Rowland. Windsor House, headquartered in Girard, broke ground last Aug. 1 on the complex projected to cost in the $6 million range.
St. Elizabeth's Upgrades Robotic Surgery Unit

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Gerald Brown of New Castle, Pa., knows firsthand the benefits of robot-assisted surgery. A diabetic, Brown, who retired just a few months ago from St. Elizabeth Health Center after working in maintenance for 38 years, had surgery for prostate cancer.
“It was just four small incisions,” he recalled. “After my surgery I was able to work for another five years here.”
Meridian's Addiction Summit Sets Action Plan

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Law Enforcement and Addiction Summit brought together entities most involved in problems posed to the community by addition and crime. Sponsored by Meridian Community Care and the Boardman Police Department, the summit was held yesterday at the Boardman Township Government Building.
Community Health Systems Posts $3.2B for Quarter

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Community Health Systems Inc., which operates ValleyCare Health System of Ohio in the Mahoning Valley, posted net operating revenues of $3.2 billion for the three months ended June 30, and $6.5 billion year to date, the company reported after close of markets Wednesday. The three-month results reflect an 8.1% increase from the $3.0 billion reported for the same period in 2011, while the six-month results are up 9.8% from the comparable period last year.
