Cyrogenic Processing Plant Takes Shape in Kensington
Friday, April 19, 2013KENSINGTON, Ohio -- Piece by piece, the central nervous system of oil and gas production in the Utica shale is starting to fall into place as construction on the Utica East Ohio massive cryogenic plant in Columbiana County moves forward at a rapid clip.
“We’re a little over halfway finished with the first phase,” reports Baron John, construction coordinator for the UEO Kensington project in Hanover Township in southern Columbiana County. “We’re keeping on schedule and want to commission sections of the plant so we can get gas flowing.”
FrackFree Billboards Tout Community Bill of Rights
Friday, April 19, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A group opposed to oil and gas exploration in the city and in the watershed of Meander Reservoir is launching a billboard campaign to support passage of a Community Bill of Rights, a measure on the May 7 ballot.
"We drink the water from Meander Reservoir. We do not want fracking in our protected drinking water area," declared Lynn Anderson as she stood before one of two billboards that urge city residents to vote "yes" on the ballot initiative.
Shell, Chesapeake Secure More Well Drilling Permits
Thursday, April 18, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Shell Western E&P Inc., or SWEPI, a division of Royal Dutch Shell, has secured a new permit to drill in Lawrence County, Pa., according to records from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
SWEPI received a permit April 12 to drill a vertical well for unconventional gas exploration at the Twentier property in Perry Township, public records show. Often a vertical permit is followed by a horizontal permit to tap into unconventional shale formations such as the Utica.
Ohio Petroleum Council Applauds Pipeline Vote
Thursday, April 18, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Petroleum Council is applauding the Ohio General Assembly's passage of a resolution urging the federal government to approve construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. The resolution passed the Ohio House Wednesday with an overwhelming 90-7 affirmative vote. The Ohio Senate approved the measure last week. It now goes to the U.S. State Department for consideration.
Consol Completes Fracking at Well in North Jackson
Monday, April 15, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Consol Energy reports it has completed hydraulic fracturing at the Cadle well in North Jackson, its first multi-well pad in the Utica shale play.
The first well at the site, designated the company’s MAH 7 pad, was drilled laterally 5,411 feet, Consol says. The second well, the MAH 7C, was drilled 5,290 feet horizontally. The wells “were stimulated in 18 and 16 frac stages, respectively, the company reports. “Both wells are currently shut-in for frac water dissipation and flowback is expected to begin late in the second quarter.”
