Infrastructure Bottlenecks Slow Utica Shale Flow
Saturday, April 27, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The lack of midstream infrastructure in the Utica shale in Ohio is drawing the attention of national news organizations as questions are raised as to whether the play will be as lucrative as first speculated.
While pipelines are being laid, gas processing plants are being built and lots of wells are being drilled, not much wet and dry gas is actually being pumped out of the ground and transmitted to processing facilities, the reports note.
One Well Permit for Mercer, Activity Slows in the Valley
Friday, April 26, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Shell Western E&P Inc., or SWEPI, has secured a new permit to develop an unconventional well in Mercer County, Pa., according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
SWEPI was awarded a permit April 17 to bore a vertical well in Perry Township on the Mills property, records show. The well would be used for exploration for natural gas in the Utica/Point Pleasant shale formations, records show.
No new permits were issued last week for Lawrence County, Pa..
Industry Groups Tout Support for Pipeline, Drilling
Tuesday, April 23, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Chamber of Commerce is joining with Consumer Energy Alliance to call for approval of the transcontinental Keystone XL pipeline project, while another Ohio-based interest group is citingrecent polling by Quinnipiac University showing broad support for natural gas and oil drilling in Ohio.
The Ohio Chamber and CEA partnered to recruit 14,584 Ohio residents who petitioned the U.S. Department of State to approve construction of the pipeline because of the jobs, energy and economic security generated by the project.
