Ohio Star Forge Plans $10M Expansion
Tuesday, December 07, 2004"By Dan O'BrienCHAMPION, Ohio -- A steel company that sits on property once occupied by one of the Mahoning Valley's largest manufacturers intends to spend between $10 million and $13.2 million to revamp its operations.Mark Zigmont, a planner for the Trumbull County Planning Commission, said today that Ohio Star Forge is planning renovations to its plant and expects to add to its work force. The company has applied for tax abatements of 60% over 10 years on these investments, Zigmont reported.
Striking Vindy Employees Vote to Reject Contract Offer
Tuesday, December 07, 2004"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- By a three to one margin, striking employees at The Vindicator today voted to reject what the company had called its final and best offer. The vote came three weeks after 175 members of the Youngstown Newspaper Guild set up picket lines outside the offices of the Mahoning Valley's largest newspaper. The union -- Local 34011 of The Newspaper Guild -- Communications Workers of America -- represents reporters, photographers, page designers, classified ad and circulation personnel.
Striking Vindy Workers to Vote on Offer

Winner Aviation Expands at Vienna Airport
Tuesday, December 07, 2004VIENNA, Ohio -- The Western Reserve Port Authrotiy this morning voted to lease Hangar 1 to Winner Aviation, an addition to the company's existing lease. Board member Mike Harshman abstained from voting on the agreement, citing a business relationship with the company.Winner Aviation, which provides fixed-base operations for Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, operates a line service out of the hangar, according to port authority attorney Dan Keating.
Workers' Comp Opens Ashtabula Customer Center
Tuesday, December 07, 2004COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation will host an open house at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at its new Customer Focus Center in Ashtabula. The "one-stop shop" center, located at 525 Lake Ave., employs three, according to James Conrad, bureau administrator and chief executive officer. "Now, injured workers, employers and medical providers can talk to bureau employees by going no further then their own backyard," he said.As at other BWC offices, individuals can file a claim, start a policy, learn about safety programs and research cost saving solutions, Conrad said.
Youngstown Symphony Society Expects $150,000 Grant"

Effect of Auto Incentives Is Wearing Thin
Tuesday, December 07, 2004SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- The average manufacturer automotive incentive in the United States was $2,395 per vehicle sold in November, up $9, from November 2003 and down $260 from the previous month, according to Edmunds.com.Overall, combined incentives spending for domestic Chrysler, Ford and General Motors nameplates averaged $3,379 per vehicle sold in November, down $283 from October 2004. Chrysler lowered incentives spending in November by $215 to $3,429 per vehicle sold while increasing market share by 0.9% to 13.8%.
