FCC Saves Private Ryan from Indecency Fines
Monday, February 28, 2005"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Valley's ABC affiliate got it right in broadcasting the movie Saving Private Ryan on Veterans Day 2004. ABC stations in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus did not. The Federal Communications Commission yesterday ruled that the violent and profane content of the D-Day movie does not violate the Federal Communications Commission's decency standards, which is precisely how the general manager of WYTV expected the agency to rule. In November, Dave Trabert said WYTV would not join other ABC affiliates in refusing to broadcast the movie to commemorate Veterans Day.
GM's February Sales Drop 12% Over Last Year
Monday, February 28, 2005"DETROIT -- General Motors dealers sold 309,375 new cars and trucks in February, down 12% compared to year-ago sales. GM's truck sales (179,390) were down 8.5%, and car sales (129,985) were down 17%."The calendar year is starting off slower than expected, for both GM and the industry," said Mark LaNeve, vice president, GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing.
Penn State President Makes Case for More State Funds

Spanier met, with members of the state House Appropriations Committee today to ask that funding for the university be restored to the level received four years ago.Spanier outlined Penn State's position as the leading driver of economic impact in Pennsylvania and the rapidly rising costs that challenge the university.In 2003, for every dollar of appropriation received byPenn State, the university returned $19.42 in total statewide economic impact and $1.56 in tax revenue to the commonwealth, he said.

Cortland Bancorp Earns $4.843M for 2004
Monday, February 28, 2005"CORTLAND, Ohio -- Cortland Bancorp earned $4.843 million, 11.7% less than 2003 earnings, according to Chairman Rodger W. Platt. Earnings per share in 2004 amounted to $1.17 compared with $1.30 per share earned for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2003.For the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2004, earnings were $1.305 million compared to $1.34 million a year ago, representing a decline of 2.6%. Earnings per share for the fourth quarter of 2004 were down a penny to 31 cents compared to the prior year.
