45,497 Concealed Carry Licenses Issued to Ohioans"
Wednesday, March 02, 2005COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio sheriffs issued more than 45,000 licenses to carry concealed handguns since April 8, 2004, when the state law went into effect, according to the first annual licensing report issued by state Attorney General Jim Petro. Last year, Ohio sheriffs issued 45,497 regular licenses to carry concealed weapons, Petro said. The sheriffs issued 65 temporary emergency licenses, which allow a person who submits evidence of imminent danger to receive a non-renewable 90-day license to carry a concealed handgun.
Worker Confidence Drops Sharply in February
Wednesday, March 02, 2005NEW YORK -- Confidence among U.S. workers in the employment market fell in February as the Hudson Employment Index slid 5 points to 102, its lowest level in 12 months. The downward move reflects heightened concerns about layoffs, job security and personal finances. This month's Index reading is comparable to February 2004, which recorded the second lowest reading of last year at 103.7.Job loss fears rose to the highest level in over a year, with one out of every five (21%) surveyed workers reporting concern about losing his or her own job, compared to 19% of workers in January.
Leaders Named for 2005 Heart Walk

Shaw have been named co-chairpersons of the American Heart Association's 2005 Heart Walk, according to Lynn Whetson, Heart Walk director. The event will be held Sept. 17 at the Youngstown State University track.Pishkur is president of Aqua Ohio Inc. and Shaw is public & external affairs manager for Sprint in Northeast Ohio. As co-chairpersons, they will serve as spokespersons at various Heart Walk events throughout 2005 and help spearhead efforts to attain the Walk's gross goal of $232,000.

New YSU Policy to Help At-risk Freshmen Succeed

Petro Says Odds Very Long for Casino Gambling in Ohio
Wednesday, March 02, 2005COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The odds of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe building a casino in Lordstown -- or anywhere else in Ohio -- grew a lot longer Tuesday when the state's attorney general weighed in with his opinion.Jim Petro, considered the Republican front-runner to become the state's next governor, said any Native American tribe that wishes to establish casino gabling in Ohio would face many legal obstacles and a very long, arduous and expensive process.
