City OKs Development Agreement for VAM USA Mill
Friday, February 28, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- VAM USA LLC would begin with two threading mills with the potential for expanding to four lines if it moves forward with its proposed $81.5 million project, Youngstown’s finance director said Thursday.
The city’s Board of Control approved a development agreement with VAM USA that gives the company the option of leasing or owning land adjacent to the former Genmak building at 1053 Ohio Works Drive, which Vallourec purchased last year.
Bolton Elected President of Manchester Newman & Bennett

The law firm is the result of the merger earlier this month (READ STORY) of two prominent downtown law firms, Manchester, Bennett, Powers & Ullman and Newman, Olson & Kerr.
Bolton was president of the former Manchester Bennett firm.
Elected vice president was E. Carroll “Ted” Thornton, former president of Newman, Olson & Kerr.

Ohio Auto Insurance Rates Lowest in Country
Friday, February 28, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio has the least expensive auto insurance rates in the country, according to a new report. The 2014 average annual premium for an auto policy for a new vehicle in Ohio is $926 compared to the national average of $1,503.
“Competition drives down the cost of any insurance product, whether it is auto, health, homeowners or life insurance,” said Mary Taylor, Ohio lieutenant governor and director of the Insurance Department. Census Data Show Growth in Ohio Agriculture

YSU Trustees Ready to Name Provost Interim President
Thursday, February 27, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Several “ifs” have to fall into place but Youngstown State University trustees are ready to name the provost, Ikram Khawaja, interim president upon his return from overseas March 15 and have a permanent successor to Randy J. Dunn in place by June 30.
Khawaja, scheduled to retire as provost June 30, has been either difficult or impossible to reach. The chairman of the trustees, Sudershan K. Garg, said he has not spoken with Khawaja since Dunn unexpectedly resigned Feb. 17 and gave 180 days’ notice.
City Anticipates Decision on VAM Project in 30 Days
Thursday, February 27, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city’s finance director expects to hear within a month whether VAM USA LLC plans to move forward on a new pipe-threading operation here.
This morning, the city’s Board of Control is expected to approve a development agreement that would give VAM USA control of the proposed Ohio Works Drive site for the project. VAM USA is a joint venture between Vallourec, which opened a $1 billion pipe mill in Youngstown last year, Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metals Corp. and Sumitomo Corp.
