Tuesday, February 12, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- Union electrician Steve Fife has been named the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee’s “Instructor of the Year.”
Fife, a journeyman wireman for Joe Dickey Electric of North Lima, teaches the fifth-year apprentice courses at the Trumbull County local in Champion Township, the final year before students take the journeyman’s exam.

Second Harvest to Kick Off Harvest for Hunger Drive
Tuesday, February 12, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Second Harvest Food Bank will hold its 22nd annual Harvest for Hunger kickoff at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the food bank’s warehouse on Salt Springs Road.
The month-long food and funds drive takes place during March to help stock Food Bank shelves for the summer months when donations taper off and children are home from school.
Last year, Harvest for Hunger raised more than $160,000 and collected 41,000 pounds of food. All funds raised and food collected stay in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties to help feed Valley residents.

Grove City College Places 96% of 2012 Grads
Tuesday, February 12, 2013GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College achieved a 96% placement rate for students from its Class of 2012. Of these, 75.6% are employed and 20.4% have gone on to graduate or professional school.
The placement rate is 2% higher than in 2011, officials said. The 2012 graduating class had 576 members.
The statistics were compiled after receiving data from class members based on three surveys: At graduation, three months later and six months afterward. As in 2011, 95% of the graduating class responded.
Breaking: EPA Says Lupo Dumped at Least 6 Times
Monday, February 11, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – D&L Energy owner and president Ben Lupo admitted to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency that he directed his employees to illegally discharge drilling wastewater on at least six different occasions since September, an OEPA official said Monday.
It means that potentially hundreds of thousands of gallons of contaminated waste could have been dumped into a storm drain and carried into the Mahoning River, Kurt Kollar, on scene coordinator for the OEPA, told reporters during a news conference in Mayor Chuck Sammarone's office.
