Nominations Sought for ACH Children’s Advocate Award
Friday, February 15, 2013BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley is accepting nominations for its Children’s Advocate Award. The award recognizes individuals and organizations throughout the Mahoning Valley who exhibit a spirit of caring and who are working to make a difference in the lives of the children of the community.
The winner will be honored at the “Champions for Our Valley’s Children” celebration May 14 at The Lake Club just south of Poland.
City Approves V&M Project Modifications
Friday, February 15, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Rail relocation work should be completed by late summer at the Brier Hill Industrial Park, where V&M Star is completing work on its new $650 million mill, the city’s chief engineer said.
The Norfolk Southern portion of the rail relocation work still has to be completed and some additional work is being done for V&M on one of the tracks. “All that will be approved by [the Federal Highway Administration] and we can get back to work,” said Chuck Shasho, deputy director of public works.

Republic Services, Teamsters Resume Contract Talks

"We continue to plug away at it," said Douglas Dunn, general manager of Republic Services' business unit 145, which includes the company's waste hauling and Carbon Limestone Landfill operations in the Mahoning Valley.

Insurance Department Helped Ohioans Save Record $24.4M
Thursday, February 14, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Insurance saved or recovered a record $24.4 million for Ohio consumers last year, the department announced Wednesday. Its staff also helped more than 190,000 Ohioans, primarily through toll-free hotlines, community outreach and counseling.
The total saving includes $18.9 million and $5.5 million saved or recovered, respectively, by the agency’s Office of Consumer Affairs and its Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, according to Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, director of the insurance department.
