April 19 Event to Aid Manufacturers in Hiring
Wednesday, March 20, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- Manufacturers are invited to a special informational session from 9 to 10:30 a.m. April 19 to learn how skills assessments and certifications can help them make better hiring and promotion decisions, reduce turnover and improve production and quality.
The session will be held at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center in Canfield.
Hosts are the Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Coalition and the Advanced Materials & Diversified Manufacturing Industry Partnership of Mercer and Lawrence Counties.
YSU's Williamson Hall Earns LEED Gold Certification
Wednesday, March 20, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown State University’s Williamson Hall has been awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The award recognizes the building's energy-efficient design and systems.
LEED -- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design --– is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Williamson Hall, home to the YSU Williamson College of Business Administration, is the first building on the YSU campus to earn the Gold standard.

Northside Medical Center Among Top 5% in Nation

Huntington Lends More than $4B to Small Businesses
Tuesday, March 19, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio – Huntington Bank has surpassed its goal, announced three years ago, of lending $4 billion to small businesses within its Midwest footprint.
Since 2010, the bank, with some $56 billion in assets, has lent to more than 24,000 businesses in Ohio, western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky. Among those the bank has extended financing in the Mahoning Valley are McHenry Industries in Austintown, BRT Extrusions and Melmor & Associates in Niles, and Kiraly Tool & Die, Youngstown.

City Attempts to Mobilize Market Street Merchants

Just a handful of individuals representing businesses on the corridor attended the Market Street Business District Summit, which featured several officials including Mayor Chuck Sammarone, the two councilwomen who organized the meeting, the police and fire chiefs, and other department heads.
