Fed Doesn’t Object to Huntington’s Capital Plans
Monday, March 18, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Federal Reserve has informed Huntington Bancshares Inc., holding company of Huntington Bank, that it has no objection to the capital plans the Midwest provider of financial services submitted in January, Huntington announced Friday.
These capital plans include raising the dividend on common shares by 25% to five cents per share beginning in the second quarter and the holding company’s intent to buy back as much as $227 million in common stock between now and March 31, 2013.
Huntington Extends Support for Affordable Housing

Avalon Holdings Reports 2012 Net Loss of $300,000
Monday, March 18, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- Avalon Holdings Corp. reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $300,000, or eight cents per share. The company's net loss for the full year 2012 was $300,000, or nine cents per share.
In comparison, Avalon reported net income of $700,000, or 19 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of 2011 and net income of $800,000, or 20 cents per share, for the full year.

Elected last fall to his sixth term in Congress, Ryan, who was reappointed to the powerful Appropriations Committee for the current term, said in an email issued by his campaign that he would "be able to do more for the region, state, and country by continuing to serve in the House of Representatives than by running for governor."
Lupo, Guesman Plead Not Guilty to Dumping Charges
Friday, March 15, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Ben Lupo, owner of D&L Energy Group and Hardrock Excavating LLC, and former Hardrock employee Michael Guesman pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court this morning to one count of violating the Clean Water Act.
Lupo, Guesman, and Hardrock were indicted by a federal grand jury Feb. 28, charging they violated U.S. environmental law after it was discovered the company had illegally dumped wastewater from drilling operations into a storm drain on D&L's property on Salt Springs Road.

Chesapeake has never had any business dealines with D&L or its affiliates, Hardrock Excavating and Mohawk Services.

Mandel Listens to Concerns of Local Business Executives

And listen he largely did, as area business executives shared their concerns and vented their frustrations Thursday morning during a roundtable discussion at the offices of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.
Topics addressed during the 50-minute discussion ranged from Gov. John Kasich's proposed tax changes to the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to the challenges in finding qualified workers who can pass a drug test.
