Thursday, June 13, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- United Community Financial Corp., holding company of the Home Savings and Loan Co., announced Wednesday that it has completed its $5 million shareholder rights offering and has begun issuing 1,818,181 commons shares at $2.75 each to shareholders.
Shares of UCFC have traded in the range of $4 since the rights were announced last January and closed Wednesday at $4.11, up 14 cents from Tuesday’s close.
Randy Dunn Signs Contract to Be 8th YSU President
Thursday, June 13, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Randy J. Dunn, president of Murray State University since 2006, was formally introduced as the eighth president of Youngstown State University Wednesday. He assumes his new duties July 15.
Sundershan Garg, chairman of the YSU Board of Trustees, presented Dunn and his wife, Ronda, toward the end of the trustees’ meeting Wednesday after announcing that he had signed a three-year contract with Dunn earlier yesterday. Garg introduced him as “YSU’s newest penguin.”
YSU Trustees Adopt Smaller Budget for FY 2014
Thursday, June 13, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The trustees of Youngstown State University adopted a budget of $177.2 million for fiscal 2014 Wednesday, $1.5 million less than this year’s budget and $3.8 million less than the fiscal 2012 budget.
Seven trustees also voted to raise tuition yet again to $7,900 a year, or $3,950 per semester for residents of Ohio. That’s a 2.4% increase, or $94 per student per semester.
Registration Closes Friday for Education in Workplace

The program allows participants to better understand the context of subject matter with real-world examples at a manufacturing workplace in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys. The experience allows educators to witness how the subject is applied and learn about the soft skills employers need.
