AAA Reports NEO Gas Prices Drop 16 Cents Over Week
Wednesday, June 19, 2013PITTSBURGH – Gas prices in northeastern Ohio are down 16 cents this week, dropping this week to $3.743 per gallon, the East Central office of the American Automobile Association reports.
Mahoning Valley stations are reporting slightly lower prices. With Speedway gas stations in Niles and Warren reporting regular unleaded at $3.70 per gallon. Regular unleaded is listed at $3.66 at the Austintown Speedway on Kirk Road and at $3.52 on North Meridian Road in Youngstown.
May Restaurant Sales Dip from Record High
Wednesday, June 19, 2013WASHINGTON -- Restaurant sales dipped in May from April’s record high volume, but still remain above year-ago levels. Looking ahead, economic fundamentals continue to point toward a generally positive sales environment in the second half of the year.
Restaurant sales edged down in May from April’s record high volume, according to preliminary figures from the U.S. Census Bureau. Eating and drinking place sales totaled $45.9 billion in May on a seasonally-adjusted basis, down 0.4% from April’s upwardly-revised sales volume of $46.1 billion, which represented a record high.

The Candella Micro-Distillery LLC, 388 McClurg Road, continues to test its apparatus as it awaits its license to manufacture and sell vodka, apple pie, applejack, limoncello, bourbon and rye whiskeys, and some brandies.
Verizon to Close Boardman Call Center
Tuesday, June 18, 2013BOARDMAN, Ohio – Verizon Wireless will close its Youngstown call center here by March 2014, the company informed employees Monday.
The call center is located behind the Verizon retail store at 475 Boardman-Canfield Road, near the Honda Store and Giant Eagle on Route 224 in the township. The telecommunication company has 381 employees at the call center.
The operational phase out will begin in late August, with the elimination of 65 marketing continuity positions. The retail store is slated to close as well.
