Port Authority to Conduct Strategic Plan Process
Thursday, June 20, 2013VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Western Reserve Port Authority will undertake development of a strategic plan to help define its functions for itself as well as for the community.
The port authority’s board, at its regular monthly meeting Wednesday morning at the Youngstown/Warren Regional airport, approved authorizing its executive director, Rose Ann DeLeon, to request proposals from consultants for the plan, which would encompass both its roles as operator of the Vienna Township airport and as an economic development agency.

Kent Architecture College Receives $5M Gift from Alum
Thursday, June 20, 2013KENT, Ohio -- Kent State University's College of Architecture and Environmental Design has received a $5 million gift from John and Fonda Elliot through the family’s foundation. It is the largest single gift ever made to the college.
The funds will be used to create the “Elliot Studios for Design” at the new building planned for the College and will fund endowments for the Elliot Program for Healthcare Design, Elliot Scholars and Elliot Professorship in Healthcare Design.

Dollar Volume Rises 21% for Area Home Sales in May
Wednesday, June 19, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The total value of homes sold last month in the region was up 21% from a year earlier, driven by gains in Mahoning and Columbiana sales.
Data compiled by the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors and the Warren Area Board of Realtors released Tuesday showed dollar volume of home sales in May in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties totaled $43.9 million, up from $36.2 million a year earlier and up from $32.5 million in April of this year. In the three counties, 460 units were sold in May, up 11% from 414 a year earlier and up from 391 in April.
Council to Consider Ohio Works Lease for Vallourec
Wednesday, June 19, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – City Council this evening will consider an ordinance to lease 35 acres of property in the city’s Ohio Works Business Park to Vallourec Star, which just last week unveiled its new $1.05 billion pipe mill.
The company wants to lease the land from the city for “future economic development purposes” which it has not identified, said David Bozanich, city finance director. “They’re going to end up using it for whatever they end up deciding. They’re going back and forth down there as to how to optimize the use of that property,” he remarked.
