Hill Barth & King Moves Up in Top-100 List
Friday, March 14, 2014BOARDMAN, Ohio -- The Hill, Barth & King LLC accounting and business advisory family of firms jumped 20-plus spots on the latest Accounting Today poll of Top-100 firms in the nation from its previous ranking.
The firm rose to No. 67 on the trade journal's rankings.
McNally Confirms VAM USA Plans $81M Threading Mill
Thursday, March 13, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- City officials confirmed this morning that VAM USA LLC will move forward with an $81.6 million pipe threading mill in Youngstown.
Construction on the mill will begin immediately on the project, which is expected to create about 80 jobs, Mayor John McNally told reporters just prior to this morning’s Board of Control meeting. The board, which consists of McNally, Finance Director David Bozanich and Law Director Martin Hume, approved an enterprise zone agreement with VAM to support the project and has approved other incentives.
Troy and Aafke Loney Join Phantoms' Ownership Team
Thursday, March 13, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Troy Loney and his wife Aafke have partnered with Bruce Zoldan, owner and CEO of the Youngstown Phantoms, to become members of the club’s ownership and operational group, the team announced today.
Under the 50-50 partnership agreement, which is dependent upon league review and approval, Loney will oversee the day-to-day business and hockey operations of the Youngstown Phantoms.
President Search Committee Limited to YSU Trustees
Thursday, March 13, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The search committee for a new president of Youngstown State University will consist solely of the trustees, they decided Wednesday.
Where the search committee in 2010 that chose Cynthia Anderson had 24 members and that which chose her successor, Randy J. Dunn, three years later had 18, this year’s committee will have 11 -- the nine voting trustees and the two student members.
Youngstown Board of Control to Consider item for VAM Project
Thursday, March 13, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The city’s Board of Control this morning is expected to act to approve agreements expected to encourage a Vallourec subsidiary to build a $81.5 million pipe threading mill in Youngstown.
VAM USA is a joint venture between Vallourec, which opened a $1 billion pipe mill in Youngstown last year, Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metals Corp. and Sumitomo Corp.

Activists Want Answers Related to Earthquakes
Thursday, March 13, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Activists concerned over the this week’s spate of earthquakes in Poland Township want the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to deploy portable seismic monitors so it can determine whether a hydraulic fracturing operation in Poland Township triggered the tremors.
"They never had any earthquakes in 250 years of European settlement in this area," observes Ray Beiersdorfer, a professor of geology at Youngstown State University. "So, there's a correlation in terms of time."

Tri-State 1st Banc Declares Dividends
Thursday, March 13, 2014EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -- Directors of Tri-State 1st Banc Inc. have declared a first-quarter cash dividend of seven cents a share on both common and Preferred Series A stock payable March 28 to shareholders of record March 10.
The seven-cent dividend is a 40% increase over the rate of the dividends paid a year ago, Steven Sant, president and CEO said. Shareholders will be paid $313,750 in all.
In addition the directors declared an 8% dividend, or $400-per-share, on the Preferred Series B stock payable April 1 to shareholders of record March 10.
