Confidence Rebounds for Those with Retirement Plans
Thursday, March 20, 2014WASHINGTON -- Americans’ confidence in their ability to afford a comfortable retirement has recovered slightly from the record lows of the past five years, mostly those participating in retirement plans, the Employee Benefit Research Institute found in a survey. Overall, however, actual preparations for retirement haven’t improved.
Younger House Buyers Hopeful, Oldsters Trade Down
Thursday, March 20, 2014WASHINGTON -- Young home buyers remain optimistic and see their residence as a good investment. Conversely, older buyers are more likely to trade down to a smaller property to adjust their changing needs.
The 2014 National Association of Realtors Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends study found that eight of 10 recent buyers considered the houses they purchased a good financial investment; the figures ranged from 87% for buyers ages 33 and younger to 74% for buyers 68 and older.
WRPA Relieves DeLeon as Its Executive Director
Wednesday, March 19, 2014VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The Western Reserve Port Authority this morning voted to relieve Rose Ann DeLeon of her duties as executive director due to medical reasons.
DeLeon, who was hired in 2009 as the port authority’s first executive director, has been on medical leave since Jan. 16.
Packard Foundation Joins Trumbull Community Foundation

The Trumbull foundation is a component fund of the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern Ohio, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that specializes in philanthropic leadership for local institutions. The Packard Music Hall Foundation is separate from the Packard Music Hall & Park board of trustees; its board voted unanimously to join the Communtiy Foundation Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern Ohio.
Hilcorp Secures 7 Well Permits 2 Days After Quakes
Wednesday, March 19, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded Hilcorp Energy Co. seven new permits for wells in Lawrence County two days after a series of earthquakes rumbled through the Mahoning Valley and the company was ordered to cease drilling at its nearby Carbon Limestone well pad just across the state line in Ohio.
Oil and Gas Training Center in Line for $250K from State

The 2014 capital budget directs $250,000 for a proposed Tech Belt Oil & Gas Learning Cente to be located at the former U.S. Army base in Lordstown.
YBI to Seek Additional Funds for Its 5th Building

Gary Small to Succeed Bevack as CEO of UCFC
Wednesday, March 19, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Gary M. Small has been chosen to succeed Patrick W. Bevack as president and CEO of United Community Financial Corp. and its subsidiary, the Home Savings and Loan Co., UCFC announced Tuesday.
Small, in the financial services industry 28 years, is senior executive vice president and chief banking officer of S&T Bank in Indiana, Pa. There he has had responsibility for directing its wealth management, retail banking and insurance operations. S&T has $4.5 million in assets and some 50 offices in 11 counties in central and western Pennsylvania.
Valley Safety Council Seeks Kovach Award Nominations
Wednesday, March 19, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Valley Safety Council and co-sponsors Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and City Machine Technologies Inc. are seeking nominations for this year’s Joan Kovach Safety Leadership Award.
The nomination due date is April 1.
The recipient and nominees will be honored May 14 at the eighth annual safety awards luncheon at Antone's Banquet Center in Boardman. Tarry Alberini, CEO of U.S. Safety Gear, will be the keynote speaker at the event.
